Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Brief Breathing Mindfulness Training. We recruited first graders at a male high school in D city. Ten students participated voluntarily following a breathing mindfulness training announcement, and 16 students participated by teacher recommendation. The control group and the experimental group were randomly assigned to 13 persons. Participants in the treatment group received 8 sessions of Brief Breathing Mindfulness Training, and post-test data were collected at the same time for both groups. The treatment group showed a significant decrease in maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy compared to the control group. 'Positive Refocusing', 'Empathic Concern' and 'Acting with Awareness' increased significantly. This suggests that Brief Breathing Mindfulness Training was effective at modifying adolescents maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies, and it positively affected empathic ability and mindfulness. Implications, limitations, and future research directions were discussed.
